The season of giving – Principality donates £10,000 to 10 charities in Wales

Principality Building Society has donated £10,000 to support 10 charities and community groups across Wales in time for Christmas.

The charities, which were nominated and voted for by the Society’s colleagues, include City Hospice,  the Noah’s Ark Charity,2 Wish Upon a Star, the Ben Saunders Foundation, Mind Cymru and the Wales Air Ambulance service. For the past 10 days, each charity has received £1,000 in funding each to support the vital services they provide to communities in Wales.

Bigmoose, a charity and non-profit coffee shop based in Cardiff is one of the charities to have received the £1,000 donation. Bigmoose employ, train and mentor people who have experienced homelessness, as well as providing private counselling.

Chloe Smith, Co-Founder, Bigmoose said:
“Thank you so much to Principality for this amazing donation. After such a tough year this money will be used to support people with their mental health through private counselling. We know this year has been so hard for so many and with no fundraising events for charities this donation is needed now more than ever. Your support really will help to save lives. Thank you.’’

The Noah’s Ark Charity is the official charity for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales. The charity works hand in hand with the NHS, providing funding for the most up to date equipment and support services for families across Wales.

Lucy Jones, Fundraising Development Manager, the Noah’s Ark Charity said:
‘’We are so grateful that Principality Building Society have chosen to support the Noah's Ark Charity during our Christmas campaign. The money donated will go to ensuring that we can continue to fund the essential work of the play specialist team.  The play specialist team make the world of difference to the children of Noah's Ark.

‘’The team work with around 1,700 inpatients and 2,000 outpatients in a typical month, providing vital distraction, preparation, learning and emotional support through play. It is fantastic that the donation will also be doubled through the Big Give! We can only support the children, families and staff at the hospital through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond because of donations like this. It really does make such a difference.’’

Cylch Meithrin playgroup is one of the voluntary organisation’s to have received the donation. Cylch Meithrin supports children’s learning, with a focus on supporting development in the welsh medium at its 500 playgroups in Wales.

Kim Jones, Cylch Leader at Cylch Meithrin Pwllheli said:
"Thank you so much to Principality for your kind donation which has been used to purchase an interactive whiteboard, which will help develop our children’s IT skills as part of the foundation phase curriculum.’’

Julie-Ann Haines, Chief Executive Officer, Principality Building Society said:
‘’We’re proud to be donating to support the work of 10 incredible charities across Wales. Our colleagues are passionate about supporting the communities they live and work in and have in their masses, nominated and voted for charities close to their hearts in their communities to receive the funding this Christmas time. We know it’s been a very difficult year for charities across Wales, facing increased demand for services, with much less funding available, so we wanted to ensure we could help out.’’
