Principality branch celebrates 50th birthday in the community

Principality Building Society’s Albany Road branch celebrated its 50th anniversary yesterday since it first opened its doors to customers in Roath and Cathays.

The branch officially opened on 2nd November 1971 and has been serving the community in Roath ever since.

To celebrate the special occasion, members and customers were invited to the branch and greeted by staff with cakes and refreshments. Customers could also enter a raffle to be in with a chance to win tickets to the Wales v Australia Autumn Nations Series match at the Principality Stadium this November.

With over 53 branches and 16 agencies across Wales and the borders, Principality Building Society is committed to the high street in Wales, as well as supporting the local communities it operates in. Principality’s Albany Road branch is also a member of Cardiff Council’s Cardiff Commitment scheme, supporting local secondary schools including sitting on the Business Forum of Cathays High School and supporting the school with workshops on careers and financial education.

Shaun Middleton, Head of Distribution, Principality Building Society said:

‘’The 50th anniversary of our Albany Road branch marks Principality’s commitment to the high street and community here and in towns and cities across the country. We’re really proud to say that for half a century, Principality has been built strong relationships with its members in Roath and Cathays.

‘’Whilst many towns and cities across Wales have seen a decline in banking services available to them on the high street, our members and customers tell us they really value the local face-to-face services our colleagues in branch provide. We’d like to thank our members for continuing to use our services, for those who have been with us 50 years, to those who opened an account today.’’
