Principality Building Society backs Tŷ Hafan Dads' football team with a new kit

A football team of fathers with children who have life-limiting conditions and are supported by Tŷ Hafan children's hospice, played their first game in a new kit thanks to a donation by Principality Building Society.

The kit was debuted in a friendly against Pontypridd United this weekend, and although the game went the way of The Dragons, there were still plenty of smiles on the Tŷ Hafan Dads' faces.

James Harper, Social Impact Manager at Principality said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Ty Hafan Dads team with new kits as part of our charity partnership which involves fundraising and lots more. Sport can be such a powerful thing and it’s a real privilege to help a little in bringing the dads together. We look forward to hearing all about their progress on the pitch, and they certainly look the part.”

The Tŷ Hafan team consists of fathers of children who use, or have used, the children’s hospice and is also open to any significant adult male family member who is involved with the hospice. The focus is on enjoying a shared activity.

Dan Notley, family support worker for fathers at Tŷ Hafan, who manages the football team said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Principality, the provision of the new kit has transformed the team, and it's sure to be the 12th man in our line-up as irrespective of the result, we will be flying the flag for Tŷ Hafan Dads across Wales!

"The team is open to whoever wants to be involved. This is essential, as it is often the case that some dads can't always play, or have to cancel at the last moment, owing to the care needs of their child. Additionally, male staff members also join the team when they can, which helps to strengthen our relationships with the families as we support them through the most difficult times.”

Paul Ragan, Club chairman, Pontypridd United said, “We’re delighted to have hosted Tŷ Hafan Dads for their charity match against our invitational team. It was lovely to see so many family and friends on the side-lines cheering, making it a fun-filled day.

“As a club we are deeply invested in the community, our fans, and local businesses and of course the charities we partner with. Our men’s team is delighted to continue this support, in what promises to be a very exciting 2022/23 season in the JD Cymru Premier League, and we look forward to a rematch!”
