Principality Building Society sponsors Llanelli Festival of Walks

Llanelli Ramblers’ Festival of Walks returns in 2022, thanks to a £250 donation from Principality Building Society.

It’s been three years since the Llanelli Ramblers laced up their hiking boots for the return of their Festival of Walks which was due to celebrate its Silver Anniversary in 2020.

With the routes set to cover some of the most spectacular sights in South Wales, experienced guides eager to get back out, and coach travel organised for the trips further afield, the Festival of Walks will take place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend thanks to the support of Principality’s Llanelli branch.

Alwyn Williams, Chair of Llanelli Ramblers and Festival of Walks said: “The Llanelli Ramblers Group was formed in 1984, and we’re excited to be celebrating the Silver Anniversary of our Festival of Walks this year. It’s always been a highlight of our calendar, and we’re looking forward to seeing familiar faces, and welcoming new ones as we head off on our journeys over what promises to be an exciting Bank Holiday weekend. We’d like to say a big thank you to the team at Principality Building Society for their sponsorship and making our weekend of walking possible.”

Jeremy Evans, Senior Branch Manager at Principality Building Society’s Llanelli branch said: “We’re so pleased that we’ve been able to support the Llanelli Ramblers’ Festival of Walks 2022. It has certainly been missed in the last few years, and we’re looking forward to lacing up our boots to join in the adventures.”

On Saturday May 28, walkers will have a choice of two walks around Blaenafon, with one venturing 10 miles along the former tramways, taking in the landscape of this World Heritage Site. The shorter 4-5 mile route will head underground to the Big Pit National Coal Museum, before exploring the surrounding hillsides which offer views of Garn Lakes, and the source of the Afon Lwyd.

Walks 3 and 4 will take place on Sunday May 29 with a trip to the Pembrokeshire Coast on the agenda. Walk 3 will consist of a 9 mile stroll across the dramatic headlands, from Stackpole Church to the legendary St Govan’s Chapel. Walk 4, will see ramblers amble the 6 miles from Bosherston to Broad Haven South, taking in the golden sands of Barafundle along the way, which is regularly been voted as one of the best beaches in the World.

On Monday May 30, there’s a chance for the whole family to get involved in an adventure along the idyllic Burry Port estuary, with tales of wrecks and wreckers of days gone by, and even a visit from Captain Jack Sparrow, who will lead the children on a hunt for hidden treasure.

Registration for the walks opens at 10am on Monday April 18th, and you can book your place on the Saturday and Sunday trips by calling Alwyn on 07989 138106. For the family walk on Monday May 30th, contact Geoff on 07593874789.
