Boosting access to cash in an area that has been affected by bank closures, through a partnership with shared-banking innovator OneBanx.

Hosted in Principality’s Maesteg branch, OneBanx and Principality are launching a cash service kiosk which will become the fourth available in Wales, through the building society. This fulfils the Society’s commitment to maintaining its high street and community presence until at least the end of 2030. Announced as part of the organisation’s Annual General Meeting in April, Principality has extended its commitment to the communities it serves, recognising the importance of a high street presence, access to cash and in-person services for its Members.

Bringing back banking services

Since 2023, the Society has implemented the kiosks in Cowbridge, Caerphilly and Buckley Library, ensuring banking services are more accessible for communities in Wales.

The service enables individuals and business customers of most major banks and building societies to deposit and withdraw cash without needing to use a card. There is no charge for the service and funds are immediately available to the customer. The service is also available in the Welsh language.

Customers will be able to access the kiosk during branch opening times six days a week, supported by Principality branch colleagues.

A word from our Head of Savings Customer Services

Kelly Young, Head of Savings Customer Services at Principality Building Society, said: “I’m so pleased to announce Principality’s fourth installation of a OneBanx kiosk, this time in our Maesteg branch.

Our members tell us that access to cash and essential services makes a real difference - it keeps the high street vibrant and gives our Members, colleagues, and communities confidence. In an area that has felt the impact of bank closures, we believe this service, along with our continued commitment to the high street, will help residents and businesses manage their finances and strengthen both the community and the local economy.”

Hear from the Chief Executive Officer of OneBanx

Javed Anjum, CEO of OneBanx, said: “We are delighted to continue expanding our strategic partnership with Principality Building Society, in support of their commitment to their Members and customers of other banks who are no longer able to attend a local branch.

At OneBanx, we believe technology should open doors rather than close them. Our platform not only ensures continued access to cash, but also helps customers and businesses become more confident in managing their money in a digital age. By combining innovation with trusted face-to-face services, we’re enabling communities to embrace new ways of banking while keeping the high street vibrant and inclusive for everyone.”
