Director of Principality Commercial wins’ personality of the year award

Principality Commercial’s Director has been named as the property personality of the year, by the Insider Wales Property Awards.

Peter Hughes, who joined Principality Commercial in 2002, was credited for creating a culture that enables colleagues to develop to the best of their abilities, as well as overseeing major commercial funding projects for Wales’ largest building society.

In his 18 years heading up the commercial team, Peter has overseen Principality’s lending support for a number of developments, including the Mill housing development in Cardiff. The Mill is a major regeneration project in Wales, in collaboration with the Welsh Government, Tirion Group, Lovell Partnerships, and Cadwyn Housing Association, which has transformed a former derelict site to provide over 800 homes to local communities, half of which will be for affordable housing. Other projects funded by Principality Commercial include the J Shed in Swansea, Capital Retail Park in Cardiff, as well as projects to transfer housing in Bridgend, Merthyr, and Torfaen to Housing Associations which has enabled investment in over 18,000 homes in these communities.

Peter has also been involved in prioritising investment in the future talent within Principality, by establishing a training initiative which provides resources and qualifications to enable colleagues throughout Principality to pursue a career in commercial lending.

The awards, which were held virtually this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, commended a variety of individuals, developers, housing associations, professional firms and funders making an impact in the property industry in Wales. Principality Building Society was also shortlisted for the Lender of the Year category.
