As part of our commitment to supporting our communities, any Principality mortgage customers considering opening their homes to Ukraine refugees as part of the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ government scheme, can be reassured that we will make this process as straightforward as possible and we will not place any unnecessary obstacles in your way.
All that we ask of our customers is that those who are accepted as refugee sponsors let us know when this is approved, as well as remaining aware of the latest guidance being shared by the UK Government, via the Homes for Ukraine sponsorship webpage, which will be developing further over the next few weeks. For further information, visit our page on the Ukraine crisis.
Introduction to our Social Impact work
Principality Building Society was formed in 1860 around the ethos of helping people; helping people save money and helping people buy a home. We have grown considerably but what we do remains as relevant today as it was back then, and we are very proud to be at the heart of high streets throughout Wales and the borders.
Back in 2016 we introduced three multi-generational theme areas to help drive and develop our responsible business activities; all aligned to our purpose-led, responsible, mutual, and community focused business. The themes include getting and staying in a home, health and wellbeing, and financial education. We reflect on our Social Impact activities each year and are confident these themes remain relevant today and will in the years ahead.
We love helping charities and back in 2016 introduced a charity partnership approach, which brings different charities together over a three year period, along with matching every £1 fundraised by staff with another £1 (up to a maximum of £150,000 per year).
From 2022 our charity partners are Ty Hafan (1047912) and Hope House ; Ty Gobaith (1003859); two incredible children’s hospices covering Wales & the borders, who both lead from the front in ensuring that children and young people with life limiting conditions, including their families, have the best care, support and incredible experiences to create those cherished memories.
The delivery of financial education in schools is something we are hugely supportive of and we will continue to champion the increase in opportunities for pupils to learn, support teachers and work with key partners (including Young Money and the London Institute of Banking & Finance) to provide impactful qualifications and sustainable help.
We want to reduce the impact our business has on the natural environment and are committed to ‘doing more’ in reducing paper consumption and single use plastic, our recycling rates, energy use and staff travel.
We’re pleased to be partnered with the Woodland Trust, which will see two years’ worth of our carbon emissions through energy and travel use offset (equivalent to 3,000 trees) as part of the Woodland Carbon Programme.
